OneLegacy Defies the Odds: Sets New National Record for Organ Donors

In Southern California, support for critical organ donation and transplantation is reaching unprecedented levels. The nonprofit organization OneLegacy has reported a remarkable 11% surge in organ donors, achieving a new national record of 721 donors. Additionally, there has been a 13% increase in successful organ transplants, totaling 1,840. This progress underscores the growing commitment to lifesaving medical procedures in the region.

We are immensely grateful for each donor and their families who have said ‘YES’ to organ, eye and tissue donation, saving and healing thousands of lives in Southern California and across the nation.
— expresses Prasad Garimella, CEO of OneLegacy.

The increased number of successful organ transplants was largely due to the creation of the OneLegacy Transplant Recovery Center at its headquarters in Azusa. This facility, being the world’s largest and most comprehensive of its kind, houses the most sophisticated intensive care units, diagnostic imaging systems, and operating rooms. It operates 24/7 and even includes the only independent recovery center helipad in the nation.

The Azusa Recovery Center has also had an immediate impact on the availability of organ transplantation. It allows for the accommodation of clinical services and schedule of recovery procedures to meet the diverse needs of waiting recipients and surgeons without being subject to unpredictable hospital emergency needs. As a result, there was a 25% increase in successful organ transplants as compared to similar recoveries in other hospitals.
